Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Super One Foods, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint through energy-efficient innovations and sustainable practices. Our efforts not only benefit the environment but also help create a greener future for our communities.

Energy Efficiency Initiatives

Modern Refrigeration & Lighting

Over the last several years, all coolers, refrigeration units, and store lighting have been upgraded to energy-efficient systems.

We conduct ongoing reviews of energy consumption to identify and implement additional improvements.

Air curtain technology

Air Curtain Technology – The Latest Advancement

  • We have plans to install air curtains across all Super One locations.
  • This technology reduces energy waste by optimizing refrigeration use.
  • Air curtains and variable valves allow refrigeration units to rev down at night, conserving energy.

At our Lakeside store alone, this system saves 60,000 kWh per year.

Future plans: Air curtains are currently in place at select stores and will be expanded to all locations in the near future.

Recycling Initiatives

Bag2Bag Program: Recycling Plastic Bags

We provide Bag2Bag receptacles at all store locations for customer convenience. We accept:

  • Plastic shopping bags
  • Newspaper bags
  • Produce & bread bags
  • Bottle overwrap
  • Bags labeled '2' HDPE and '4' LDPE

In 2024 alone, an estimated 4,971,000 plastic bags were recycled.

Super One works with our partners who help to distribute the plastic, and it is repurposed for other uses, such as plastic decking materials like Trex composite decking.

Cardboard recycling process

Cardboard Recycling

  • Super One stores collect and bale all of our cardboard for recycling
  • All baled cardboard from our stores is returned to Miner's Distribution Center
  • The Distribution Center then loads semi-trailers with cardboard for recycling

Annual Impact: Over 9,792,000 pounds of cardboard recycled each year.

This equates to 122 full semi-trailers of cardboard recycled annually.
